The Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA) has concluded its September 30 & October 19, 2015 Commission Meetings.
By action of the Commission, the following schools have received:
Placed on Provisional Accreditation* Status Based on Change of Ownership Notification:
- Center for Massage & Natural Health– (Asheville, NC)
- Steiner Education Group (SEG) Institutions/Programs:
- Baltimore School of Massage (Baltimore, MD; York, PA)
- Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy (Newington, Groton, Westport, CT)
- Cortiva Institute – Boston
- Cortiva Institute – Chicago (Chicago, Crystal Lake, Joliet, IL)
- Cortiva Institute – Seattle (Seattle, Federal Way, WA)
- Cortiva Institute – Pennsylvania (King of Prussia, PA; Wall Township, NJ)
- Virginia School of Massage (Charlottesville, VA)
Remove Show Cause:
- Educating Hands School of Massage – (Miami, FL)
Change of Location Confirmation:
- Potomac Massage Training Institute (Silver Spring, MD)
The Commission accepted the site visit report and confirmed approval of the change of location, effective immediately. The new address is recorded as: 8380 Colesville Road, Ste 600, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
Extend Deferral of Accreditation and Show Cause:
- Potomac Massage Training Institute (Silver Spring, MD)
The Commission acted to extend the deferral of accreditation and show cause action from June 2015 meeting to allow more time for the school to respond. The extension is now through December 31, 2015.
Approval of New Program – Ratified:
- Sage School of Massage and Esthetics LLC (Bend, OR)
The Commission ratified approval of the new esthetics program after successful completion of a site visit.
Addition of New Program – Interim Approval:
- Cortiva Institute – Pennsylvania (King of Prussia, PA)
The Commission granted interim approval to the school to add a 790-hour Advanced Professional Massage Therapy certificate, pending completion of a Self-Study Report.
Please note: Renewal schools placed on provisional accreditation, show cause, probation or deferral are considered accredited institutions.
*Provisional Accreditation: A continuation of the institution’s previous grant of accreditation for a limited period of time during which COMTA evaluates new information which may affect the program’s ability to stay in compliance with COMTA standards. Provisional accreditation begins when COMTA receives written notification of an anticipated change in institutional control and ends when the program receives written notification from COMTA of the transfer of accreditation. Provisional accreditation is initially granted by the Commission upon initial notification of the change in institutional control within 30 days. Maintenance of provisional accreditation is contingent upon faithfully following COMTA procedures and the completion of a site visit no later than six (6) months following the change in institutional control.
