Eligibility Criteria Change

for Institutional and Programmatic Applicants

The Commission wishes to announce an important change for assisting new institutions and programs into the accreditation process and solicit public call for comment on the following change.

At its recent March 19 – 21, 2014 meeting, the Commission revised two of the eligibility criteria for programs and institutions who wish to apply for accreditation:

  • Changed the requirement of twenty graduates of the longest program to read “a minimum of five (5) enrolled students in each program applying for accreditation.”*
  • Removed the requirement that “institution/program must have been in continual operation for a period of at least two years.”

*Prospective applicants should note that graduates and subsequent completion and placement data remain a requirement for accreditation, but an application may be initiated much sooner.

The Commission is also requesting public comment on this change.  You are  encouraged to provide your feedback by contacting chair@comta.org or 202-895-1518, before May 1, 2014.

For those prospective applicants who are now eligible to apply for accreditation due to the change, please contact the office at 202-895-1518 or info@comta.org.
