Give Your Input NOW

The Massage Therapy Body of Knowledge (MTBOK) project was started around 2007. The intent of the project was to establish the essential ingredients for practicing massage therapy. The second draft of the Phase I document was released in January 2010. There has been much discussion about the MTBOK, but the stewards of the project do not have any definite plans or timeline for future work on the project.

The Alliance for Massage Therapy Education (AFMTE) has taken the MTBOK document and made extensive comments for possible revisions. They are seeking input from the massage community about the comments. The deadline for responding is May 15th, 2012. See the AFMTE website for more details. The comments and public input will be further discussed at the AFMTE conference in June 2012. COMTA representatives will be there and we look forward to hearing the responses to the comments.

The Alliance is also leading the development of specific standards for massage therapy educators. The Teacher Education Standards Project (TESP) will also be discussed at length during the conference.
